Scottos Pizza Review

My family and I decided to have some fun one evening and do a blind pizza taste test. We purchased a pizza from what we hear around town from local sources as, "The Best Pizza Ever". Only I was no blinded to know which pizza was made where. Everyone else was. The vote was unanimous. Scotto's Pizza came out on top!

The owners are extremely family friendly. Our children have become quite comfortable around them and we are always greeted with a smile.

Their dining room is a nice option for a casual night out. One is permitted to bring their own alcohol. They provide glasses and wonderful food. There is not a bad item on the menu.

We have had family from out of state come for visits. Each and every one has always asked the next time back, "Can we go to Scotto's while I am there"?

They now have online ordering, which can be found at their website at www.ascottospizza.com

Clemente VIIChianti Classico Riserva-2008 and Papa Johns Pizza

For some reason, this afternoon I had a desire for a Chianti. There is no rhyme or reason why but the idea of a nice Chianti seemed like the way to go. The question though is what to pair it with. After some thought and reading we decided to have some fun (as none of us felt like cooking) and ordered a Papa John's pepperoni and sausage pizza.

We opened our bottle of Clemente VIIChianti Classico Riserva-2008, ordered from http://www.getwineonline.com. It has a 90 rating from Wine Spectator (http://www.winespectator.com) and Wine Enthusiast (http://www.wineenthusiast.com). The initial scent was fruity (perhaps apricot, candied fruit, chestnut and almond) yet mild. The color is very deep, dark and seductive. It has legs in our glasses and we could not wait to enjoy the first sip. It began with an acidic start as Chianti's typically do. It then went to the fruity taste we smelled and finished with a dryness with a bit of oak.

The acidity cut right through the pepperoni and sausage on the pizza. The rest of the flavors went well with it and made for a perfect pairing.

Over two hours later, after many laughs and wonderful conversation, we cleared our plates and went to bed.

Hopefully we may add the Clemente VIIChianti Classico Riserva-2008 to our collection again. This is definitely one that should be kept in the cellar for a pizza night.

New Jersey Foodies and Wine

My name is Jim Goetz and over the past couple years, my wife and I have learned to appreciate different scents, textures and flavors, found in foods and wine. We are by no means experts. We began this blog in order to share with others, our experiences, so that you too may share in our enjoyment of this hobby. We will share our experiences of restaurants in New Jersey that we visit as well as new wines that we have and the experience of what we pair it with. We hope you enjoy reading our blog! Bon appetit!!!
